Recently, Dr. Frank Turek’s ministry posted a video entitled “Calvinist Challenges Frank Turek on Free Will.” Find the original video here.
It ends shockingly. He essentially shuts down the conversation, presenting us with these two options: either people have the full ability to accept or reject Christ of their own volition and God’s saving love is bestowed on everyone equally, OR we’re left with Islamic determinism. Those cannot be our only two options.
Above, I try to respond to this claim. I think there is a better way forward, and it is (what I believe is) the Biblical understanding of free will. I don’t have all the answers; I’m nowhere near as good a scholar or apologist as Frank, but I pray my response helps people understand the true nature of the will and the infinitude of God’s love, as revealed in Scripture.
