THEOLOGY THURSDAY | Revelation Experienced
A bite-sized lesson in doctrine: 1 Concept, 2 Quotes, 3 Passages...
Welcome back to Theology Thursday!
Today, I wrap up our ongoing series on the doctrine of Scripture and Special Revelation in 3 simple steps:
ONE concept explained
TWO quotes from other voices
THREE Scripture passages to meditate on
Concept: Revelation Experienced and Applied
God has spoken. Through the regenerating work of the Spirit of God, the voice of the Divine Author is heard when all our natural senses see is ink on a page. We must hear, encounter, and respond because what the Divine Author communicates through the written Word is the Living Word, Jesus Christ. This reality will fuel us to pursue knowing our Father, through communion with the Lord Jesus by the power of the Spirit. To worship Him is to enjoy communion with Him. You love the Word of God, do you love the God of the Word? Is your soul satisfied when you engage God’s Word knowing that none but Christ is a fountain of living water? Do you view the Bible as a book about you? Is God’s Word merely an instruction manual to you or a means of resting in the redemption provided by your Savior?
Quotes:
“You should read and study God’s Word for more than bare knowledge of the truth. God’s Word, illumined by the Spirit, opens the doors of the sanctuary of heaven itself, so that you may enter in to hear the voice of your Father in heaven, behold your Savior crowned and triumphant, and add your voice to the thundering chorus of praise offered to God and the Lamb by saints and angels in heaven.”
- Joel Beeke
“Many books in my library are now behind and beneath me. They were good in their way once, and so were the clothes I wore when I was ten years old; but I have outgrown them. Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years.”
- C.H. Spurgeon
Passages:
“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”
Hebrews 1:1–2
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
John 17:3
“…the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”
1 John 1:2–4
Stay tuned for more posts in the future that will take you deeper into the doctrine of Scripture. The next Theology Thursday will be a round-up of all of these bite-sized lessons on this topic as well as various resources/articles from others that will strengthen your soul and help you defend the faith.
